Gambling may be on the rise again in Las Vegas, at least that what the numbers for the Wynn and Las Vegas Strip are showing, but others are not so lucky. When one looks at the debt that a number of the big name casinos have accumulated, one might think that Las Vegas is headed for a meltdown.

However, several of the casinos in Las Vegas that are currently showing weak revenue and have incurred serious debt have done so as part of a long-term strategy in markets other than Las Vegas. MGM, while not showing much action on the Las Vegas front, stand to do very well with their MGM International investments in Macau.


With Macau showing a forty-something percent increase in gambling revenues, US casino interest in China may just have to use Las Vegas as a tax write off for awhile. While Vegas may be suffering from a recession, the casinos that have made deals in Macau will continue to share in some of the double digit growth that Macau continues to generate.
