A Maltese national’s luck has been William Hill’s big lost. The popular bookie was forced to pay out the sum of £570,000 at the last part of 2011.

The Maltese villager placed a bet of €1 punt on a 19 fixture accumulator last November and this has resulted in Glen Johnson getting a much stained reputation for Liverpool up against Stamford Bridge’s Chelsea.

The lucky better is a 41 year old Maltese waiter and he luckily won £570,000 for his 683,783/1 bet, which happened to be a very good prediction.

Hills put the blame of the result on the fall in victory margins from 19 % to 17 % over the last quarter as a group of favorites that include Charlton, West Ham and Arsenal have all gathered victory. The big losses were just additions to the most terrible months that the firm has experienced in more than a decade. This is despite the fact that the company earned some cash over Christmas.

Despite the big lost during the last part of the year, William Hill might still meet the expectations of having £247 million revenues for last year. This though might still be slightly higher than what the bookmaker made in 2010.

William Hill’ Chief Executive, Ralph Topping announced that, November was still a good month because their football betters who are putting their bets on small stakes were able to gather high-return multiple punts.

But the fact remains that William Hill had counted a big amount of £570,000 as a pay out for the cost of a single goal that made a Maltese villager richer by that same amount. The waiter’s good prediction had made way for other small-time punters to be encouraged to try their lucks like the big winner did.

Vegas Casinos Encourage Internet Poker Laws in US

Mark Lipparelli, the head of the state gambling Board of Nevada said that the legalization of online poker was underway, and that the Board will ready to issue licenses to internet poker providers starting February next year. He said that casino playing and playing online are now not too different from each other, and further went on to discuss the present online poker game-play scenario. However, the only thing that is still holding Lipparelli and the rest of the Board members is the Nevada internet poker legislation. The bill recently cleared the state legislation, but can only be enforced once it clears Washington and online poker is regularized at the federal level.

Vegas Online Poker

Mr. Lipparelli also said that the Board would favor those who already hold licenses in the state. This simply means that firms close to the NGB would be given preference, while relatively newer companies will have to wait. According to the reports, the NGB will conduct a quick but thorough investigation before giving license to any prospective provider. The NGB boss also made it clear that the licensed companies would only be allowed to carry their operations within the state and offer their services to its residents only. The websites would be practically inaccessible for game-play to anyone outside the geographical boundaries of Nevada.

Vegas Online Casinos

About the license requirements, Lipperalli added that they were going to be tough. He was quick in adding that the Board had considered the licensing model for online casinos was similar to the land-based one. Player protection, technological advances and probity are to be the key areas that the Board especially plans to take care of.

Ladbrokes, a bookmaker, is currently in the process of trying to acquire Sportingbet, and online gambling company. They have announced that they will be giving an update on Thursday in regards to their progress in this matter. Ladbrokes first approached the company at the beginning of June about making an offer, and they have until the 17th of October to solidify their offer or else forfeit it. This is the second major acquisition Ladbrokes has attempted this year.

Gambling Company

They had tried making a deal with the gambling company 888 closer to the beginning of the year without any success. Sportingbet has a branch in Turkey, and is currently in the process of selling this part to the company Gaming VC. If that sale goes successfully then it is more likely that the Ladbroke’s offer will go through.

Bookies

Ladbroke’s is currently looking to change the way people think of online gambling company’s and focus more on live betting rather than over the counter operations like many other bookies. They are also looking into changing up their mobile gaming to increase their revenue. They have already seen a 15% weekly increase from the beginning of the year, and the 2010 World Cup only had a small part to play in that. Betting has always thought to be a resilient industry, and has always been able to bounce back easily from any bad seasons it has seen.

The casino industry is looking at a different approach to legalise gambling. They feel that it is in their best interest if Congress would ignore all of the other bills that have already been entered into legislation and pass the one they are entering instead.

American Gaming Association

The casinos and the CEO of the American Gaming Association, Frank Fahrenkopf, are thinking positively about getting this law passed as soon as possible, and that the new bill will be revealed before the end of the year. Fahrenkopf believes they are close to seeing legislation and acknowledges that there is a lot of talk in Washington, D.C. about all of the action taking place.

PokerStars

After PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker were shut down by the federal government in April the rush to take part in the online gambling industry which normally earns approximately $6 billion a year, has increased tremendously.

Many state and some members of the federal government see how profitable this can be for the economy, which is one of the many reasons they are pushing so hard to get it passed. In addition to the possible revenue, the federal government is seeking about $3 billion for money laundering charges.

Casino owners and franchises have recently joined in the fight to legalise online gambling. There are currently several different pieces of legislation in Congress working towards this goal. The AGA is a big supporter of allowing online gambling on a state level, where each state would be able to decide what limitations needed to be put into place, and their CEO, Frank Fahrenkopf, is optimistic about this passing successfully.

MGM Resorts, Wynn Resorts

Fahrenkopf believes that now more than ever it will be possible to successfully pass this legislation and legalise online gambling. The interest in the online gambling industry has recently gained in popularity, ever since the top three companies were shut down in April. The three poker companies that were shut down were a small part of a $6 billion a year industry, and the federal government is currently looking for half that amount in damages and penalties for money laundering..

There are still two mega casinos in Las Vegas that have not yet announced which side of the legislation they are on; the MGM resorts and Wynn resorts.

Spain has retracted their IPO for their lottery stating market conditions won’t allow for the guarantee of the value for investors. This isn’t the first big deal turning tail over the past months. According to Bloomberg, twenty-four new stock sales have had to cancel or postpone in Western Europe this year.

Spain IPO Retracted

The retraction of the IPO (or suspension as others report) may come as a surprise as it was only last week that the thirty percent stake was approved. Last week, the good news was that the IPO could bring in roughly 7B euros. In the face of continuing budget deficits, the IPO retraction may hit morale for the remaining months of 2012.

The IPO was to be underwritten by Credit Suisse, BBVA, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Santader according to Fox News Latino.

US supporters of the legalisation of online poker looking for an outlet for their frustration at their own government have taken to online petitions to the White House. The government website has a section in which petitioners may submit their causes, with enough community support (signatures) on nearly any topic that requires the attention of the government.

Online Poker

One such petition for the legalisation of online poker made its required 5,000 signatures but is still in queue behind other topics such as legalising cannabis.

Message from the White House

While some amount of patience would be expected, the White House may change the amount of signatures required to have a petition go before the President or his administration. The message from the White House is an obvious pre-emptive step against being flooded with petitions. Petitions that meet the signature requirements are guaranteed official responses by the Office of the President.

Despite losing on their appeals related to the German ban of online betting and online gambling, some of the major companies hold the belief that it will turn around. The Federal Court of Justice ruled in favour of the online gambling ban in an effort to protect German citizens from unchecked social gambling.

EU Ruling on Gambling Monopoly

The suits were brought to the court by lotteries owned by the state. This ruling was made despite the EU ruling against the gambling monopoly in Germany.

As this ruling contradicts the previous ruling by the EU, German states are attempting to find the means to keep the market open. A number of online gambling companies are taking a hit from the rulings with Bwin shares taking a 6.7 percent decline.
