Online PokerBonomo Joins List of Online Poker Players Leaving the U.S.

The list of U.S. citizens fleeing the country so they can continue to make their living playing online poker continues to grow. Justin Bonomo is the latest player announcing his departure. He joins such notables as Phil Galfond, Jon Agular, Dan “jungleman12” Cate, Vanessa Selbst, Haseeb Qureshi and Mike Brooks.

Bonomo, however, is adding his own flavor to his departure. Instead of heading to Canada or the United Kingdom like the rest, he is headed to the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. The island, only about 300 square kilometers (about 116 square miles) has a population of roughly 370,000, as well as a number of online poker rooms based there. Living on Malta will also put Bonomo in close proximity to the various European tournaments. One other perk that may have lured him to Malta – low taxes.

Bonomo hopes to be enjoying his new digs in Malta before the end of September.
