Bet on the Next Pope at William Hill

Earlier this week, the entire Catholic world was stunned after the current pope, Pope Benedict XVI, surprised everyone when he announced that he would resign. Ratzinger was elected as the Vatican pope when he was 78 years old and after eight years of serving the Catholic world as their pope, he said that he would resign because of health problems. This came as a shock as the last time a Vatican pope resigned was back in the Middle Ages.  He stated that he will leave his position as a pope at the end of this month on the 28th of February and he will leave the papacy position vacant.

Of course, a lot of debate resulted from such event as people started guessing who will become the next pope. With waves of debate comes gambling opportunities. It is in fact, one of the biggest bets of the decade that is not related to sport, as people will bet on who will replace the pope. Following the announcement by one day, the betting industry caught up and started offering odds on who will be the upcoming pope.

William Hill, as usual, offers punters the best possible odds. There are three persons who are expected to fill in the vacancy. Peter Turkson from Ghana is the front-runner for the chair. He is an Occupy Wall Street supporter and he is a TV personality in his home country Ghana. If he is elected, he is going to be the 1st African Pope. The odds offered are three to one. The other two are Marc Ouellet from Canada whose odds are seven to two and Francis Arinze from Nigeria whose odds are four to one.
